I meant what I said.

Basically, I have nothing to do but eat.  October 1st, 2014 is the official ONE YEAR mark of living in Manhattan.  I grew up in an extremely small town in eastern North Carolina called Washington (but only recognizable when referred to as “Little Washington”).  I went to undergrad in Raleigh, North Carolina, spent some time in a bigger Washington (D.C.) after that, and then returned to RDU for law school.  My plan was to remain in Raleigh for the rest of time, working away at the greatest law firm I could ever dream of, when out of nowhere, I met a guy and BAM!  Plans change.

As of October 1st, 2014, I’ve been unemployed and in Manhattan for an entire year and it seems that I will be here for at least a year more.  That said, I’ve decided to focus my attention on the best that Manhattan has to offer: it’s restaurants.  I constantly have friends and family asking for suggestions when they’re in the city so I thought sharing everything I learn while here would be helpful to all of us.  In doing so, my goal is to maintain a connection with loved ones back home, work on finding my voice again (a small, conservative law school isn’t the best breeding ground for creative writing skills), and discover some exciting new Manhattan gems in the process.

I have a passion for eating, but I think that most human beings should- at least, if you want to keep living.  What sets me apart is that I happen to love a great dinner out (or lunch and especially brunch) and my standards are forever increasing.  I have fairly picky standards (growing up in the south and all) but I'm learning as I go.  I try to maintain a healthy balance by exercising and consciously choosing healthier menu options (but sometimes you just have to get the MAC!).  I’m so lucky to have married someone with similar taste and appetite, as well as an excellent talent for choosing great wine.  Therefore, we eat out A LOT and we try to never go to the same place twice (unless it’s just THAT good or really convenient or Per Se).  Please feel free to send me any questions or suggestions and I look forward to sharing this passion with you all over the next year!
